Haval H5 is positioned as Great Wall Motors‘ largest SUV, ever, with an off-road style. Recently, the new car is confirmed to be officially launched on August 21 with a starting price of approximately 150,000 yuan (20,600 USD). Reservation was opened since August 10 with only a 99 yuan (13.6 USD) deposit required.

As a large all-purpose SUV, Haval H5 measures 5190/1905/1835mm, with a 3140mm wheelbase. Its approach angle is 25°, departure angle is 22°, minimum ground clearance (unloaded) is 200mm, and the wading depth can reach up to 600mm.

It is worth pointing out that Haval H5 was originally a compact SUV that was launched in September 2010, based on Great Wall Motors‘ pickup platform. However, due to unsatisfactory sales performance, Haval H5 was discontinued in 2018 after 8 years. The after nearly 5 years, Haval H5 is re-branded as Haval’s first large SUV.

Viewed from the side, the distance between the A-pillar and C-pillar is pretty wide.

Coming to the interior, it has a three-spoke steering wheel, a 12.3-inch central control screen, and a 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel. Infotainment is supported by Tencent’s TAI3.0 system. Physical buttons are retained for air-conditioning control. Other configurations include a level 2 driving assistance system and 360° camera image.

Furthermore, Haval H5 offers a five-seater layout. The seats are all wrapped in leather material. The rear seats come with headrests and support multi-angle adjustments of 27° and 31°. In addition, the large 0.8 square meter panoramic sunroof brings in plenty of natural lights.

Its trunk’s standard volume is 700L. After the second-row seats are folded down, the trunk volume can reach up to 2116L, which is equivalent to a 2m long bed.

The powertrain is equipped with a GW4C20B 2.0T gasoline engine or a GW4D20M 2.0T diesel engine, mated to a 6-speed manual or an 8AT. Two gasoline engine options are available in either 145 kW or 165 kW with a peak torque of 400 Nm while the diesel engine is only offered in 122 kW. Haval H5 also comes standard with BorgWarner’s four-wheel drive system.
