FAW’s Hogqi H5 received a B rating from China Consumer Research and Testing Center
The Hongqi H5 sedan has barely achieved B rating (80.2%) in China Automotive Consumer Research and Testing Center’s (CCRT) test. The H5’s efficiency and environment protection are great, but driving assist systems are poor. Let’s get to know the Hongqi H5’s results better.
Briefly about the Hongqi H5
The Hongqi is one of the oldest Chinese car brands, owned by the FAW Group. Initially, it produced cars only for the high-ranking members of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and government officials. But later, Hongqi vehicles became available for ordinary customers. Nowadays, Hongqi is positioned as a high-end brand aimed at global markets. In 2022, it sold over 310,000 vehicles in China, placing 9th among all Chinese car brands.
As for the Hongqi H5, it is a high-end sedan the size of the Audi A6, the BMW 5 Series or the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Its exact dimensions are 4988/1875/1470 mm with a wheelbase of 2920 mm. It has three powertrain versions. The first one is powered by a 1.5-liter ICE for 169 hp and a 7DCT. The second one has a 2.0-liter engine with a power output of 224 horses and an 8AT. And the third version is PHEV, equipped with a 1.5-liter ICE for 169 hp and an electric motor for 190 horses. The H5’s price range is 159,800 – 225,800 RMB (23,200 – 32,800 USD).
CCRT rating explained
China Automotive Consumer Research and Testing Center (CCRT) is a consumer protection organization established under China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC). CCRT focuses on five segments: Passenger comfort, Energy saving & Environmental protection, Driver’s assistants (ADAS), Driving performance and Perceived quality. Each of them is awarded 0-100 points. Then, CCRT experts determine an arithmetic average.
Hongqi H5 CCRT performance
The tested model was the entry-level Hongqi H5 with 2.0-liter ICE engine that costs 189,800 RMB (27,600 USD).
In terms of passenger comfort, the Hongqi H5 received 81.2/100 points (grade B). In this test, the H5 got 77.0/100 points (grade C) for the quality of air inside the cabin. There were almost no harmful gases, but the H5 got 0 points here for the air conditioning purification performance. As for the internal noise, the H5 got 95 points, which is an impressive result. As for electromagnetic protection, it achieved 64.7 points.
In Energy saving & Environmental protection, the H5 received 100/100 points (grade A). Both carbon emissions and fuel consumption earned a maximum of 100 points. Its fuel consumption reached 8.31 L/100km.
After the success with carbon emission and fuel consumption performance, the H5 failed in Driver’s assistants (ADAS) segment. According to Hongqi, the H5’s self driving system is L2. But the test car wasn’t able to automatically switch lanes, park autonomously and monitor the driver. So, it has scored 41.0/100 points (grade D) in this segment.
In Driving performance, the H5 scored 85.8/100 points (grade B). During the test; it reached the highest for the car’s stability (89.2 points). The acceleration got 88.3 points. The driver’s comfort received 83.8 points, and the breaking performance got 83.6. During the test, the H5 accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.99 seconds. As for the dry braking distance, it was 41.1 meters.
And, finally, Perceived quality of the H5 earned 73.6/100 points (grade C). Its Smart technologies got 64.8 points, reliability received 92.6 points.
As a result, the Hongqi H5 has barely reached 80.2/100 points, receiving the grade B. But its result is slightly lower than the Lincoln Zephyr sedan (known as Lincoln Z in the Chinese market) or the Changan Uni-V liftback. The main drawback of the H5 is the Driver’s assistants. It is clear that Hongqi has to work harder to enhance the ADAS’ performance.
