Shanghai (ZXZC)- On July 23, local time, BYD South Africa (hereinafter referred to as "BYD") announced a partnership with prominent South African bus operator Golden Arrow, securing an order for 120 electric buses. This agreement marks the creation of South Africa's first electric bus fleet.

Since 2021, BYD electric buses have undergone extensive and rigorous testing with Golden Arrow in South Africa. These tests included simulations of fully loaded conditions and extreme challenges, such as navigating Cape Town's steepest routes, laying a solid foundation for this large-scale cooperation. The 120 bespoke electric buses will be optimized for South Africa's unique climate and transportation needs and will be integrated into Golden Arrow's existing fleet.

The buses involved in the new order, each 12.5 meters long with a 65-seat capacity, are equipped with BYD's self-developed lithium iron phosphate batteries and six-in-one controllers. Once operational, these electric buses will significantly reduce carbon emissions, improve urban air quality, and offer South African commuters a quiet and comfortable travel experience.
The first batch of electric buses is expected to be delivered by December this year, with full delivery slated for completion by the end of next year.
BYD's commercial vehicles have made presence on six continents, serving major cities such as Amsterdam, London, Tokyo, and São Paulo, with a cumulative delivery volume exceeding 80,000 units.
