Chongqing International Auto Show In China Postponed Due To Covid-19 Restrictions
If you have been looking forward to the 2022 Chongqing International Auto Show in China, there is disappointing news; the event has been postponed.
The organizing committee released a press statement announcing the show would no longer open on May 27th as scheduled. A new opening date will be announced later.
The culprit is the rising cases of Coronavirus infections, as the automotive industry tries to cooperate with the government’s effort to contain the spread. However, the organizing committee said it would continue to monitor the developments concerning the pandemic to decide the next steps.
The Chongqing International Auto Show is a yearly week-long event held at the Chongqing International Expo Center in Chongqing, China. It is organized by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers and is sponsored by the Chongqing Municipal Government.
Normally, the Chongqing Auto Show hosts more than 100 Chinese and international automotive brands. The first edition took place in 1998, making it one of the oldest Chinese auto shows.
Similarly, the popular Beijing auto show was postponed in March due to the uptick in reported cases of Covid-19 infection. The organizers have not announced a new date for the April-slated event yet.
The effects of the new rise in Covid-19 cases have been felt in the automobile industry as a whole, as factories have had to shut down in multiple Chinese provinces to observe government-ordered protocols.
