Shanghai (ZXZC)- BYD, one of the leading manufacturers of new energy vehicles (NEVs), has reported a significant surge in its vehicle sales for May 2024.

In May 2024, BYD achieved a remarkable milestone by selling 331,817 vehicles, a notable increase from the 240,220 units sold in May 2023. This represents a year-over-year growth of 38.13%. Compared to April 2024, when the company sold 313,245 units, the month-over-month sales increased by 5.93%, highlighting a steady upward trajectory in BYD's market performance.

The company's year-to-date performance also showcases substantial growth. From January to May 2024, BYD sold a total of 1,271,325 units, an increase of 26.80% compared to the 1,002,591 units sold during the same period in 2023.

Breaking down the sales figures, BYD's growth trend is mainly mirrored in the passenger vehicle (PV) segment, with sales reaching 330,488 units, a 38.23% jump compared to May 2023.

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) also experienced significant growth in sales, with 146,395 units sold in May 2024, marking a 22.4% growth from the previous year. Meanwhile, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) saw an impressive surge in sales, with 184,093 units sold, representing a 54.07% year-over-year leap.

Notably, among the passenger vehicles (PVs) sold last month, 37,499 vehicles were exported overseas, showcasing a 267.5% spike over a year ago.

In the commercial vehicle (CV) segment, BYD sold 1,329 units in May 2024, a rise of 17.82% over the year-ago period. However, the bus subcategory faced challenges, with sales dropping to 239 units, a 56.47% plunge year-over-year. Despite this decline, other commercial vehicles in BYD's portfolio saw robust growth, with sales increasing by 88.26% from a year earlier to 1,090 units in May 2024.

As for sales performances of each product range and brand in May, BYD's Dynasty and Ocean series recorded a combined sales volume of 315,227 vehicles, indicating a 38.2% jump from the previous year. DENZA brand sold 12,223 vehicles, which climbed 11.1% over the prior-year period. Meanwhile, there were 608 vehicles and 2,430 vehicles sold under the YANGWANG and FANGCHENGBAO brands, respectively.
