New Petrol Powered Cars From China – June 2021 – Part 3
This is the third part of our series on new petrol powered cars from China – June 2021. For background and more cars see Part 1 and Part 2. We immediately continue with the car you see atop this post; the Exeed TX 2.0T.
Exeed TX 2.0T
Exeed is a brand under Chery Auto, making premium SUVs, competing mainly with Great Wall’s WEY. The brand makes four cars at the moment, the LX, the TX, the TXL, and the big VX. Very attractive names indeed! The new Exeed TX 2.0T is a sporty variant of the TX, fitted with rather pretty dark gray alloys and black detailing all over. The engine is a serious machine: the 2.0 turbo that is also used in the much larger VX. The motor is good for 254 hp and 390 Nm. Gearbox is a seven-speed DCT, sending horses to all wheels.
Nissan Sylphy e-Power
The Nissan Sylphy is a compact sedan made by the Dongfeng-Nissan joint venture. It is known elsewhere as the Nissan Sentra. The China-made Sylphy was so far only available with a naturally aspirated 1.6 petrol, with either 122 or 135 hp. The new e-Power version brings some much-needed extra horses with a hybrid range-extender power train. It combines a 72 hp petrol engine with a 136 hp electric motor. The latter only charges the battery and does not directly drive the wheels. Nissan claims a fuel consumption of 4.1 liter per 100 kilometers.
BYD Han DM-i
The BYD Han is a very good looking sedan, available in EV and PHEV forms. The Han DM-i is basically a new base variant of the Han DM. In BYD speak, ‘DM’ stands for dual-motor, meaning an electric and a petrol motor. The DM-i gets a 139 hp 1.5 turbo mated to a 197 hp electric motor. That’s 336 combined, which is a lot. But the DM still has a little more… a 192 hp 2.0 turbo and a 241 hp electric motor, good for 430 hp! BYD has been in a horsepower craze for a couple of years now, and strangely this has been barely notices out of China. Some of their PHEV SUVs got way over 500 horses. Perhaps they need to work on their PR a little.
Mercedes-Benz C-Class L
This is the production version of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class L, the long wheelbase version of the recently updated C-Class. The compact limousine is made in China by the Beijing-Benz joint venture. The pretty white car on the photo is the new C 260L 4Matic model, powered by a 204 hp 1.5 turbo + 48V. This is the longest generation C-Class L so far, with the wheelbase extended by 89mm to 2954mm, and with a length of 4882 mm. And that also makes it the longest long-wheelbase car in its class by length! When it comes the wheelbase, the C still loses out the the 2961 mm BMW 3 Li.
Those were the new petrol cars for China for June. See you next month with more!
