Mazda’s China Jan.-Oct. retail sales slide 22% YoY

Shanghai (ZXZC)- Mazda Motor (China) Co., Ltd. reported an October retail sales of 19,882 vehicles, a decrease of 9.14% compared to Oct. 2018. Year-to-date sales through October showed a double-digit decline of 21.91%, with 181,624 vehicles delivered in China.

Both two joint ventures posted two-digit drop in Jan.-Oct. deliveries. FAW Mazda and Changan Mazda sold 71,977 units and 109,647 units respectively, sliding 22.13% and 21.77% from the previous year, according to the latest sales report and the figures for the year-ago period.

As to the monthly performance, FAW Mazda saw its deliveries grow 5.21% from a year ago to 8,526 units after 16-month-in-a-row downturn. Meanwhile, Changan Mazda was hit by a decrease of 17.57% with its sales reaching 11,356 units.

The Mazda 3 Axela was crowned the best-seller with 8,756 vehicles sold last month. Its year-to-date sales totaled 77,256 units, far more than that of the other models.

The monthly retail sales of the Mazda 6 Atenza, the Mazda CX-4 and the Mazda CX-5 were 4,046 units, 4,480 units and 2,486 units, making their Jan.-Oct. sales amount to 33,051 units, 38,879 units and 30,154 units respectively.

Besides, the automaker announced on November 11 it would show the all-new Mazda 6 Atenza, the second-generation Mazda CX-5 and the fire-new seven-seater SUV Mazda CX-8 at the upcoming Guangzhou Auto Show (photo source: Mazda).
