5GAA's first global 5G smart transportation pilot project unveiled

Shanghai (ZXZC)- At the World Autonomous Vehicle Ecosystem Conference (WAVE), the government of Jiading district, Shanghai joined hands with several companies such as SAIC Motor, Huawei and China Mobile to launch the global first 5G-based smart transportation pilot project of 5GAA (5G Automotive Association).

Through the association, the district government and other members will jointly promote the demonstration and application of 5G-based IoV (Internet of Vehicles) and co-explore smart mobility ecos-chain. The project is expected to be implemented and open to the public in Jiading next year.  

In a bid to explore a successful and replicable business model, SAIC will launch a mass-produced ICV equipped with 5G communication module. Information and communication infrastructure and intelligent terminals will be provided by Huawei. China Mobile should supply stable and efficient network operation services.

Besides, Jiading need make use of its agglomeration of industrial resources on governmental public service platform to carefully assess and improve the road conditions and environment.  

The first batch of ICV road test license plate particularly designed for companies in Yangtze River Delta were issued to Geely, JAC Motors and Allride.AI at the WAVE. The issuance of the plates will help promote the ICV road tests in Yangtze River Delta, which consists of three provinces (Zhejiang, Anhui and Jiangsu) and one city (Shanghai), a driving force for this region to build a world-class automobile industrial cluster.
