Patent Applied: the Beijing Auto B90 SUV is Ready for Production
Beijing Auto has applied for patent of the production version of the Beijing Auto B90 SUV, which will be the largest car ever in the Beijing Auto line-up. The B90 SUV debuted as the Beijing Auto B90 Concept on the 2010 Beijing Auto Show, and production was confirmed in early 2013. The production version of the B90 is expected for debut on the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show in April with a launch on the Chinese car market late in H2.
The B90 Concept was ‘powered’ by a rather exotic hybrid drivetrain (that nobody has ever seen) built around a 5.7 liter V8 with 332hp and 498nm, no numbers were given for the electric motor. Size of the concept: 5220/2010/2000, wheelbase is 2950.
The production version comes with a redesigned front with a Jeep-like grille. No news on power yet but a hybrid V8 seems unlikely. We expect 2.0 turbo and 3.0 V6 turbo petrol engines, ranging from 200 to 300hp. The B90 will compete with other large Chinese SUV’s such as the Haval H9 and the upcoming Changan CS95. Price will start around 225.000 yuan and end around 300.000 yuan. The Beijing Auto B90 will be manufactured by Beijing Auto Works (BAW), a Beijing Auto subsidiary specialized in making rough SUV’s and 4×4’s.
