BAK Battery launches first semi-solid-state lithium battery product
Shanghai (ZXZC)- On October 12, Shenzhen BAK Power Battery Co., Ltd. ("BAK Battery") unveiled its inaugural semi-solid-state lithium battery product series, which has successfully passed rigorous testing, demonstrating its resistance to leakage during short circuits and ignition when pierced by a needle.
The company said the newly launched batteries are poised for application in explosion-proof mobile communication devices, marking a significant stride in battery technology.
Solid-state batteries are categorized into semi-solid, quasi-solid, and fully solid types, boasting extensive prospects in fields such as mobile devices, wearables, electric vehicles, and have emerged as a hotbed of innovation within the new energy vehicle industry.

BAK Battery said it has made continuous investments and breakthroughs in the field of solid-state batteries. "After evaluating various primary and auxiliary materials globally, BAK started to build its own resource pool, leveraging R&D expertise in high-nickel cathodes, high-silicon anodes, and electrolyte additives to establish a material matching system with energy densities ranging from 290 to 360 Wh/kg," said Liu Zhibo, Vice President of BAK Battery. He added that the company has successfully developed electrolytes suitable for semi-solid-state batteries and an in-situ solidification technology. Furthermore, with the success of the mixing and coating of the cathode and anode with solid-state electrolytes, the ion transport and the interface between the cathode and anode have been effectively optimized. These batteries have passed the 3mΩ short circuit without leakage test and the 3mm needle puncture without ignition test, guaranteeing the safety performance of the batteries.
Built on these cutting-edge technological advancements, BAK Battery has initiated collaborations with internationally renowned suppliers of explosion-proof mobile communication devices. Subsequently, the solid-state battery innovations will be integrated into products for industries such as mining and military communication, creating outstanding "explosion-proof application batteries" as part of their safety solutions.
Liu Zhibo expressed confidence in the development of the solid-state battery business, stating, "As BAK's semi-solid-state batteries continue to evolve, the application scenarios will expand to encompass various fields, including professional and consumer-level drones, two-wheelers, electric vehicles, energy storage, and more. Our planned production capacity is set to exceed 12 GWh."
