KTM X-Bow GT hits the China car market
The KTM X-Bow GT has been launched on the China car market, priced at 1.35 million yuan or 220.000 USD. The X-Bow GT is the ‘civilized’ variant of the all-open KTM X-Bow, it comes with a windshield and a tiny bit of comfort. The X-Bow GT is street legal in China, making it one of the craziest cars in country.
KTM global managing director Michael Wölfling saying the words. KTM is focusing its marketing on track-day use, with the catchy slogan ‘Ready to Race’. There isn’t any real competition for the KTM in China at the moment. Main competitors in Europe are Ariel, BAC, and Caterham. Ariel has no plans for China, BAC is expected to launch later this year, and Caterham has been trying and tinkering but nothing has happened yet.
KTM starts modestly with a single dealer in central Shanghai, but will open more in the near future. The KTM X-Bow is well-known in China and there is a lot of buzz about the launch on the interwebs. In 2014 KTM expects to sell 100 cars, which seems a reasonable number.
The X-Bow GT is powered by a 2.0 turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with 285hp and 420hp, mated to a six-speed manual. Weight is only 847kg leading to an explosive 0-100 of only 3.9 seconds.
