Spy Shots: Baojun SUV testing in China
The very first spy shots of the new Wuling Baojun SUV, it will be launched on the China car market late this year. The SUV clearly proves that General Motors is getting very serious about the budget Baojun brand. At this very moment three cars are under development; this SUV, the Baojun 610 hatchback, and the Baojun MPV.
Dash still needs a lot of work, bit it will have a large screen in the center console and a sporty instrument binnacle.
Baojun is an entry level brand under the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture, in which GM has a 33.3% stake. The other partners are SAIC (aka Shanghai Auto) and Wuling Automotive. SAIC and GM are tied up in the giant Shanghai-GM joint venture that makes Buick, Chevrolet, and Cadillac cars for the Chinese market.
The Baojun SUV will be powered by a 112hp 1.5 and a 143hp 1.8, mated to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. Price will start around 90.000 yuan and end around 130.000 yuan, positioning the Baojun SUV in one of the most competitive segments of the Chinese car market.
