The Skoda Rapid Spaceback will be made in China by the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture that also makes the Rapid sedan. New news on the engines: earlier on we heard the Spaceback would be powered by the same engines as the sedan: a 89hp 1.4 and a 109hp 1.6.
However, new reports in Chinese automotive media indicate the Spaceback will be powered by the 109hp 1.6 and by a 130hp 1.4 turbo. The latter is exclusive for the Spaceback and not available in the Rapid sedan. The 1.6 will be mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. The 1.4 turbo to a 6-speed DSG. The more powerful engine also means that the Rapid Spaceback will be positioned much higher in the market than the Rapid sedan.
