Car and City: ZEEKR’s Jan.-May registrations soar 112.94% YoY
ZEEKR, the premium electric vehicle (EV) brand of Geely Auto Group, saw its monthly registrations reach 8,132 units in the fifth month of 2023, according to the data compiled by ZXZC Auto Research Institute ("GARI").
ZEEKR’s monthly registrations in May 2023 soared 88.24% compared to the previous year, while also climbed 2.32% from the previous month.
For the first five months of this year, ZEEKR’s cumulative auto registrations amounted to 31,442 units, surging 112.94% from a year earlier.
Breaking down the data by specific models, with 6,038 units registered, the ZEEKR 001 accounted for 74.25% of the brand’s total registrations in May 2023, representing a year-on-year jump of 39.8%, but facing a month-on-month drop of 5.6%.
In terms of May registrations of the ZEEKR 001, Shanghai was still at the highest place among all cities on the Chinese mainland. It was followed by Hangzhou and Shenzhen, which were the other two cities with over 300 ZEEKR 001s registered last month.

As of May 2023, there had been 101,849 ZEEKR 001s registered cumulatively across the world’s largest auto market.
In May, the automaker had 2,010 ZEEKR 009s registered, indicating a 29.5% growth month-over-month. Cumulative registrations of the MPV model came in at 6,502 units for the first five months of this year.
Notably, among all domestically built new energy MPV models in China, the ZEEKR 009 was the runner-up by May registrations, but it was outsold by the champion, the DENZA D9, by 7,645 units.
Shanghai still outperformed other cities in China with 247 ZEEKR 009s registered last month. Hangzhou and Shenzhen ranked second and third, respectively.
ZEEKR began the nationwide delivery of its third production model, the ZEEKR X, in mid-June. However, a total of 84 ZEEKR Xs were registered in May, including 80 from Shenzhen and 4 from Chengdu.
