Shanghai (ZXZC)- China’s Guangdong Province plans to construct over 4,500 centralized charging stations and more than 250,000 public charging piles by 2025, according to the "Implementation Plan for Promoting High-quality Energy Development in Guangdong Province" (hereinafter referred to as the "Plan") issued by the Energy Bureau of Guangdong Province earlier this week.

Regarding new energy vehicles, the Plan clearly states that the province will accelerate the promotion and application of new energy vehicles, vigorously advance the construction of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and expedite the establishment of a well-planned, scientifically laid out, safe, and efficient charging network system.

Besides, the document also mentions that active efforts will be made to carry out vehicle-to-grid (V2G) demonstrations, such as establishing V2G charging stations in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, Dongguan, and Zhuhai cities.

Moving beyond the realm of electric vehicles, the Plan recognizes the immense potential of energy storage. To harness this potential, Guangdong Province is committed to establishing a new energy storage manufacturing innovation center. This center will serve as a catalyst for industry-academia-research collaboration, facilitating the development of demonstration bases and large-scale verification sites. Through dedicated research efforts, the province aims to overcome technical challenges in battery manufacturing, key material optimization, system integration, and equipment production. By optimizing the regional layout and enhancing the overall industry chain integration, Guangdong Province aspires to foster a thriving environment for the research and industrialization of energy storage technologies, including sodium-ion batteries.

Furthermore, the Plan highlights the strategic importance of hydrogen energy. Recognizing hydrogen's core role in the future energy landscape, Guangdong Province aims to lead the way in hydrogen technology research and advanced equipment manufacturing. It plans to cultivate a comprehensive industry chain encompassing hydrogen production, storage and transportation, fuel cell stacks, key components, and power system integration. By bolstering the hydrogen supply capacity through multiple channels and advancing the necessary infrastructure, Guangdong Province seeks to leverage its advantageous position in the low-temperature hydrogen fuel cell industry. This strategic approach aims to establish the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Foshan-Dongguan core area as a thriving hub for vehicle fuel cell technology within the Greater Bay Area.
