Shanghai (ZXZC)- On May 19th, Gotion High-tech launched its self-developed L600 Qichen battery cell and battery pack based on the new LFMP (lithium manganese iron phosphate) system at its 12th Technology Conference, according to the company’s press release.

The company said the LFMP-based Qichen battery, which incorporates manganese into lithium iron phosphate, features a range of up to 1,000 kilometers, setting a precedent in the industry for achieving a range of thousands of kilometers without using NCM (nickel-cobalt-manganese) materials.

"In recent years, lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology has regained market recognition, with an increasing market share. At the same time, the energy density growth of mass-produced lithium iron phosphate batteries has reached a bottleneck, requiring the enhancement of the chemical system for further improvements. Therefore, manganese-doped lithium iron phosphate has emerged," said Dr. Cheng Qian, the executive president of Gotion High-tech’s global business unit.

According to Dr. Cheng’s introduction, the Qichen L600 LMFP battery cell achieves a mass energy density of 240Wh/kg, a volumetric energy density of 525Wh/L, and can withstand 4,000 cycles at room temperature and 1,800 cycles at high temperatures. With the adoption of the L600 cell, the volume packaging rate reaches 76%, surpassing the average energy density of current mass-produced ternary systems, and the system energy density reaches 190Wh/kg.

The new battery cell is set to be put into volume production in 2024.

In addition to the upgrades and innovations in the battery material system, Gotion High-tech has also made multiple breakthroughs and innovations in the battery pack built on the aforesaid new cells, Dr. Chen added.

The Qichen battery pack adopts a sandwich structure with double-sided liquid cooling technology and a minimalist design concept. This reduces the number of structural components in the battery pack by 45% and the weight of structural components by 32%. The minimalist electrical design reduces the length of wire harnesses in the battery pack to only 26% of the previous length, decreasing from the original 303 meters to 80 meters. Moreover, the volume packaging efficiency reaches up to 76%, and the pack energy density also grows to 190Wh/kg.

In other words, without adopting the ternary battery system, Gotion High-tech's Qichen battery pack has achieved a range of 1,000 kilometers for the first time in the industry, and can support 1500 full-time fast charges in 18 minutes.
