Tesla opens charging network to non-Tesla brands in China

Beijing (ZXZC)- Tesla announced today that it will start a pilot program in China to open up its charging stations to some non-Tesla-branded electric vehicles.

This move marks the latest expansion of Tesla's charging infrastructure since the global launch of its Non-Tesla Supercharger Pilot program in November 2021. Up to now, Tesla's charging stations have been open to non-Tesla-branded vehicles in 18 countries and regions, including the Chinese mainland.

The initial phase of the pilot program will include 10 Supercharger stations and 120 Destination Charging locations in China, which are mainly located in business districts, shopping centers, and other areas where electric vehicle owners gather. The first batch Supercharger stations to be opened to public will be located in Beijing and Shanghai. The Destination Charging locations will be in more than 25 provinces and municipalities , including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, and Jiangsu. 

According to Tesla, the Non-Tesla Supercharger Pilot program will serve 37 non-Tesla electric vehicle models, including part of the models from BYD, ORA, HiPhi, ZEEKR, NIO, Li Auto, XPeng, etc. 

Tesla stated that it plans to expand the program to cover a wider range of its charging network, providing services to a greater variety of brands and models. As of the end of April 2023, Tesla has built over 1,600 Supercharger stations on the Chinese mainland, with over 10,000 Supercharger connectors, and over 700 Destination Charging locations, with over 2,000 Destination Charging connectors, covering all provincial capitals and municipalities on the Chinese mainland.
