Shanghai (ZXZC)- ZXZC compiled the sales data released by four major Japanese automakers and found out that Toyota was the only one that achieved positive year-on-year (YoY) growth in both Feb. sales and Jan.-Feb. sales for China's market. Honda posts a rising performance in cumulative sales despite a slight drop in Feb. sales. However, Mazda faced quite a big downturn with its Feb. sales and year-to-date (YTD) sales both plunging over 35%.

Toyota

Last month, Toyota sold nearly 80,000 vehicles in China with a YoY increase of 3.3%, being crowned the sales champion of Japanese car brand for the second month in a row. During the first two months of 2019, Toyota also gained a positive growth of 11%.

The Feb. sales of the Camry were 7,500 units, which made its YTD sales jumped 30% to 24,900 units. Besides, the monthly sales of the premium car brand Lexus edged up 4.4% to 10,379 units.

In 2019, Toyota plans to roll out the change-over versions of the Corolla, the Levin, the RAV4 and the locally-produced Avalon in China.

Nissan

Nissan saw its China retail sales in February edged down 1.8% year on year to 76,745 units. For the first two months, its cumulative sales also slightly dropped 1.2% to 210,679 units.

The PV sector operated by Dongfeng Motor Company Limited (DFL) got a sales drop of 3.4% with 66,386 vehicles delivered last month. Specifically, Dongfeng Nissan sold 59,184 vehicles in February (+1.8% YoY) and 159,418 vehicles for the first two months (+1.9% YoY), both hitting the record high in Feb. sales and Jan.-Feb. sales.

Besides, Dongfeng Venucia's sales in Feb. reached 7,202 units and totaled 20,668 units from January to February.

The light CV sector witnessed its Feb. sales jump 15.3% over a year ago to 9,241 units, among which the respective sales of Dongfeng Automobile Co., Ltd. and Zhengzhou Nissan were 6,109 units and 3,132 units. By the end of February, the two CV subsidiaries have sold a total of 26,500 vehicles in 2019 with a YoY increase of 8%.

As to the Feb. performance for several sales mainstay models, the Sylphy, the X-TRAIL and the Qashqai's sales reached 25,240 units, 12,491 units and 7,827 units respectively.

Honda

Honda announced that its China's deliveries in February edge down 1.5% year on year to 75,907 units. GAC Honda delivered 40,508 vehicles with a drop of 4.2%, while Dongfeng Honda gained a slight growth of 1.8% with its sales amounting to 35,399 units.

For the first two months, Honda's total deliveries in China climbed 4.5% over a year ago to 212,390 units. Both two joint ventures achieved positive growth in cumulative sales. Specifically, GAC Honda sold 116,300 vehicles, an increase of 2.8%, and Donfeng Honda's sales volume climbed 6.6% from the previous year to 96,090 units.

The champion model by Feb. deliveries was the CIVIC. Last month, the sales of the CIVIC jumped 22% from the year-ago period to 11,805 units. Besides, the sales of the FIT and the CRIDER reached 9,035 units and 7,511 units respectively, presenting vigorous year-on-year growth of 27.5% and 13.2% compared with the same period a year ago.

Mazda

Mazda sold 34,388 vehicles in China during the first two months of the year, posting an evident year-on-year drop of 36.4%, Mazda Motor (China) Co., Ltd. announced on March 5.

FAW Mazda and Changan Mazda saw their Jan.-Feb. retail sales tumbled 44.0% and 31.3% respectively from a year ago to 12,053 units and 22,335 units.

In February, Mazda's retail sales in China plunged 42.5% over a year ago to 11,544 units, representing year-on-year drop for the tenth month in a row. Both joint ventures came across year-on-year negative growth. FAW Mazda handed over 5,037 vehicles with a steep decline of 37.5% and Changan Mazda witnessed its Feb. retail sales sharply dwindle 45.9% to 6,507 units.
