As an automotive manufacturing powerhouse in Southeast Asia, Thailand features a full-fledge industrial chain and first-class manufacturing capabilities. In Sept. 2022, the Thai government started to implement a subsidy program and adopted tax incentives, such as excise duties, road tax, and import tariff, to boost the use of electric vehicles.

On Aug. 8, 2022, BYD announced its foray into the Thai passenger vehicle (PV) market, in partnership with RÊVER, a local automobile distributor in Thailand.

On Sept. 8, BYD inked an agreement with WHA Industrial Park and announced the plan to build its first overseas passenger vehicle plant wholly invested by BYD.

Notably, it took BYD only 42 days (from Nov. 1, 2022 to Dec. 12, 2022) to receive 10,305 BYD ATTO 3 orders from the Thai market, indicating a warm welcome from local consumers over BYD's products.

Last week, BYD saw 500 BYD ATTO 3s sail for Malaysia, only one month after the model hit the Malaysian market.

BYD sold 1,863,494 NEVs through 2022, representing a 208.64% year-on-year surge. As BYD’s first PV model targeting the global market, the ATTO 3 recorded an export volume of 40,014 units last year.
