Shanghai (ZXZC)- According to data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), China’s PV wholesale volume in December 2018 evidently dropped 16.1% over the previous year to 2,178,135 units. The monthly sales of cars, MPVs and SUVs all presented double-digit year-on-year (YoY) drop (PV mentioned here refers to car, MPV and SUV).

As to full-year performance, PV wholesale volume totaled 23,237,043 units nationwide, sliding 4% from the previous year. The annual sales of cars and SUVs both showed YoY decline of 2.8%.

The car sales in December amounted to 1,021,993 units, shrinking 14.6% from a year ago. Besides, a total of 11,525,961 cars were sold in China throughout 2018 with a YoY drop of 2.8%.

The Sylphy was the hottest-selling car model by Dec. sales. Last month, the sales of Sylphy recorded an all-time high of 54,229 units, jumping 22.9% over the year-ago period. The blooming performance partly resulted from the price cut in part of regions.

Among the top 10 car models by Dec. sales, the Lavida (runner-up), the Sagitar (ranking 6th) and the Bora (ranking 9th) saw their sales decline compared with the same period a year ago. In addition, the second runner-up Jetta boasted the biggest YoY sales surge of 162.9% and the sales of the Civic also soared 104.8%. 

The Roewe i5, hitting the market at the end of last October, was included on the top 10 list with 20,471 vehicles sold last month.

China SUV wholesale volume reached 982,385 units in December, falling 16.5% from a year earlier. There are four SUV models entering the top 10 PV model list by Dec. sales, namely, the Haval H6, the Baojun 510, the Tiguan and the X-TRAIL. Except the X-TRAIL, the other three models have been long occupying the first three places by monthly SUV sales, yet their sales in Dec. all presented YoY downturn.

The MG ZS saw its Dec. sales skyrocket 219.5% over a year ago, the best performance in growth rate. The Geely Boyue failed to enter the top 10 list with a YoY plunge of 45%.
