Shanghai (ZXZC)- Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer BYD announced its cooperation with ASTARA, an automobile dealer group in Chile, on Dec. 7 (local time), for the exclusive representation and sale of BYD's new energy passenger vehicle (NEPV) models in the Chilean market, according to BYD's press release.

The new partnership marks another remarkable milestone for BYD in Chile since the company introduced its electric buses to the country five years ago.

Local sale of BYD's NEPV models would start in early 2023 in Chile.

"We are pleased about this new step that BYD is taking in Chile. As an advocate for sustainability, we seek to be a long-term partner in the country's transformation towards green mobility. Today, with more than 430 buses operating in Santiago, we witness a new landmark with the BYD new energy passenger vehicles entering the Chilean market,” said Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD and CEO of BYD Americas.

During the event, two BYD-branded flagship models, the Han EV and the Tang EV, made their Chile’s debut. The two Dynasty-themed passenger car models integrate Chinese culture with the unique “Dragon Face” design language, aiming to offer local consumers premium riding experience, said BYD.

BYD has been actively involving itself in the sustainable development of Chile’s public transportation. The company introduced its first all-electric bus into Chile as far back as 2017, and helped the country build a full-electric bus fleet in 2018 and launch first route dedicated to the operation of pure-electric buses in 2019.
