SVOLT launches ‘Dragon Armor’ battery solution
Shanghai (ZXZC)- On Dec. 15, SVOLT Energy Technology Co., Ltd. ("SVOLT"), a Chinese power battery manufacturer carved out of Great Wall Motor ("GWM"), launched a slew of new technologies on its 3rd Battery Day. Of them, the "Dragon Armor" battery is the most eye-catching one.
According to Yang Hongxin, SVOLT's chairman and CEO, the Dragon Armor battery is the company's new-generation high-safety power battery systematic solution. The name indicates SVOLT's confidence in the solution's great safety performance and integration of the company's many self-developed technologies, like the short-blade battery and super-high-speed stacking process.

The Dragon Armor battery boasts high safety by using multiple innovative designs at the levels of cell and battery pack. For instance, the solution places the short-blade cell explosion-proof valve on the battery's bottom, thus a cell allows a rapid pressure relief at a fixed direction once it is confronted with thermal runaway, so as to keep other cells intact. Besides, the two-side cooling design makes cells in great contact with the cooling plate, in a bid to achieve a 70% higher efficiency in heat exchange.

While improving safety, EV's range has been increased as well thanks to the Dragon Armor battery. By virtue of the cells with higher energy density and the integration of battery system's structural parts and space, the solution enables a range of over 800km if adopting LFP cells, over 900km for the high-ferromanganese-nickel cells, and more than 1,000km for ternary-lithium cells.
Equipped with ternary-lithium cells, the Dragon Armor battery solution supports 4C fast charging, according to the company's introduction.
Compared to the conventional battery pack, the pack powered by the Dragon Armor solution is 10-20kg lighter as about 20% structural pats have been reduced.

In addition, the new solution is compatible with various chemistries, and is applicable to vehicle models ranging from A00 to C segments.
Yang Hongxin revealed that at the event that pre-order of the Dragon Armor battery has started upon its launch.
He added the Dragon Armor battery will be installed onto mass-produced models next year, including a SUV and a coupe to go into volume production in Oct. 2023.
