CATL to supply batteries to Japanese carmaker Daihatsu

Shanghai (ZXZC)- Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited ("CATL") and Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. ("Daihatsu") recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to carry out strategic cooperation on battery supply and battery technologies, aiming to co-boost e-mobility in Japan, the Chinese battery giant announced via its WeChat account on Nov. 11.

Per the agreement, CATL intends to provide its stable supply of power batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) of Daihatsu, who is a leading company in the compact passenger car sector and among the oldest carmakers in Japan.

The newly-formed cooperation will allow both parties leverage their respective resources and advantages to promote the application of such cutting-edge battery technologies including CTP (cell-to-pack) and BMS.

Powered by CATL's advanced batteries, Daihatsu will greatly ramp up its production capacity and performance of electric vehicles with high cost effectiveness. The new partnership will contribute to a faster electrification transition and achievement of carbon neutrality for Daihatsu.

CATL also regards the new cooperation as an important step for its global footprint expansion as it will explore diverse cooperation forms in regional markets including Japan and Southeast Asia, therefore promoting the global drive for e-mobility transition.
