Lincoln, ORA, XPENG Motors sell new models on Alibaba’s Tmall first

Shanghai (ZXZC)- At the end of 2018, a group of automakers decide to sell their new models on Alibaba's Tmall online retail platform first, including Lincoln, XPENG Motors and Great Wall Motor's ORA, etc., according to local media.

ORA, Great Wall Motor's NEV car brand, saw the sale of a new tailor-made model start on Tmall platform a few days ago. With a theme dubbed “new Chinese fashion”, the new model features such Chinese cultural and modern architectural elements as Beijing Opera and Bird's nest, the Beijing-based national stadium. Besides, Lincoln gets 58 units of a limited edition model to be sold first on this platform on December 28.

Chinese EV startup XPENG Motors also put the initial sale of its first model G3 on Tmall to attract more young consumers, making it the first car startup that joins Tmall's flagship stores. On December 12 when XPENG G3 hit the market, there were over 150 presale orders produced on the Alibaba's retail platform.

Automakers are strengthening the cooperation with Internet companies to explore new marketing modes and elevate service quality as part of effort to realize the transformation towards electrification and intelligentization. ORA has already opened a flagship store on Tmall platform and expects to deepen the cooperation in automotive new retail by digitalizing offline dealer networks and integrating services online and offline.

Buying vehicles on Tmall is getting increasingly popular among young consumers. Relevant data show that around 60% Tmall's car buyers in 2018 are post-90s. On November 11, a popular shopping day in China known as Alibaba's Double 11, nearly 2,000 vehicles were sold on Tmall within only one minute.
