FAW-Volkswagen sees vehicle outputs for 2018 exceed 2 million units

Shanghai (ZXZC)- FAW-Volkswagen (FAW-VW) witnessed its 2 millionth vehicle of the year came off the production line on December 24. The joint venture originally planned an annual outputs target of 150 thousand units when it was founded. During the past 20 years, the yearly outputs for the company have been continuously jumping to over 2 million units in 2018 from more than 50 thousand units in 1998.

Up until now, FAW-VW has already completed the construction and upgrade of its five major production bases in Changchun, Foshan, Chengdu, Qingdao and Tianjin. Out of that, there are four plants newly built this year which can increase by annual capacity of 1.05 million vehicles for the automaker, namely, the Changchun Audi Q plant, the production base in Eastern China, the second phase of South China base and the North China plant. Currently, FAW-VW has boasted a total capacity of nearly 3 million units on an annual basis.

Aside from the existing MQB platform, the joint venture also introduced the MEB platform this year. The MEB platform is a modular car platform for electric cars developed by the Volkswagen Group and its subsidiaries and its battery system will be assembled in FAW-VW’s Foshan plant.

By the end of November, the automaker has sold a total of 1,288,970 vehicles this year. Besides, it has rolled out such new models as the all-new Bora, the all-new CC, the all-new Audi Q5L, the all-new Audi Q2L, as well as the T-ROC and TYRON SUV, which greatly shore up the growth of production capacity.
