A lonely house stands in the middle of a brand new road in the great city of Wenlin in Zhejiang Province. The owner of the house stubbornly refused to sell hit property for the price offered. His neighbors all sold out so their houses were flattened to make room for the road. The last man standing however, kept standing. The developer therefore decided to build the road, around the house.

Fights between one last-standing home owner and development companies are quite usual in China, so common indeed that this kinda houses got a special name: ‘nail house’, as in the last nail of an old box that for some reason refuses to get out. In most cases the developer either pays more money or hires some thugs to beat the owner out. Apparently that all didn’t work in Wenling so things stand as they are.
