Tencent, FCA China forge partnership to develop ICV cloud platform

Shanghai (ZXZC)- Tencent and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles China Region (FCA China) inked a strategic cooperation agreement on December 10, saying the internet-based technology company will make full use of its advantages in cloud, AI, cybersecurity and ecosystem content to help FCA China build a new-generation Internet-connected vehicle (ICV) cloud platform in China, offering more intelligent and convenient mobility services to car owners of three FCA-owned major brands—Jeep, Maserati and Alfa Romeo.

Under the agreement, both parties are expected to co-explore such areas as the TAI automotive intelligence system, autonomous driving technologies and mobility platform.

In the first cooperation phase, Tencent will endow the automaker with the connectivity ability to build a manageable and scalable ICV cloud platform. The initial platform will feature a series of functions, including remote controlling, remote checking of vehicle state, remote diagnosis and LBS (location-based service).

The Internet company will also assist FCA with the construction of a user account platform that will let the automaker better grasp consumer’ demands via the uniform tailor-made user ID. Besides, Tencent plans to help its partner to create a full-chain data platform covering multifaceted scenarios such as R&D, production, marketing and mobility.

Tencent has currently formed a business matrix in the smart mobility domain that integrates four major business units—Tencent Auto Intelligence, autonomous driving, location-based service and the QR code passenger app “Tencent Passenger Ride Code”, as well as its content platform and security support system, the Internet titan announced at the Tencent Global Partner Conference 2018 on October 31.

The company said the Tencent Smart Mobility is an integrated solution offered to its partners that covers individual, sharing and public travelling scenarios, providing users with convenient, efficient, entertaining and safe driving experience.

Moreover, Tencent has already formed strategic partnerships with many automakers, including BMW Group, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, GAC Group, Changan Automobile, FAW Group, Geely, Dongfeng Motor and has successfully implanted its technical applications into such volume vehicle models as the Geely Boyue, Trumpchi GS4, Trumpchi GE3 and Changan CS35 PLUS.
