Spy Shots: new Volkswagen Santana testing in China
The best spy shots so far of the upcoming new Volkswagen Santana. The new Santana will debut on the Guangzhou Auto Show and it will be launched on the Chinese auto market in early 2013. It is basically the same car as the new Volkswagen Jetta which debuted on the Chengdu Auto Show in late August and will be launched in January.
The Santana and Jetta stand on the same PQ25 platform that also underpins the Skoda Rapid , which will be made in China as well, and the Seat Toledo which will likely not be made in China. Volkswagen so will have three very similar cars for almost the same price, this indeed sounds a lot like how Chery does business! Volkswagen however might be excused because it has two different partners in China who always want what the other has.
The Santana will be made by the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture and the Jetta will be made by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. The Santana will be positioned slightly higher than the Jetta, price will range from 80.000 until 100.000 yuan, the Jetta will range from 70.000 until 90.000 yuan. Engines are the same in both vehicles; 1.4 and 1.6.
