NIO to deliver 150kWh batteries from Q4 2022
Shanghai (ZXZC)- NIO plans to start delivering its 150kWh “solid-state” batteries in the fourth quarter of 2022, the automaker said today.
The EV startup launched the 150kWh battery on NIO Day 2020 held in January 2021. The company introduced then that the battery was powered by an advanced production-ready solid-state battery technology and was compatible with all NIO models. NIO vehicles equipped with the battery can realize an NEDC-rated range of around 850km for the 2020 ES8, over 900km for the Performance Version of the ES6 and the EC6, and over 1,000km for the ET7.
NIO noted that the 150 kWh battery featured a high-performance Si/C composite anode material, and an ultra-rich nickel cathode material. The battery has an ultra-high energy density of 360 Wh/kg, which increased 50% over the 100 kWh battery.
According to William Bin Li, this battery is essentially a “hybrid semi-solid-state” battery as it still uses liquid electrolyte in part. The industry predicated that all-solid-state batteries would still take five to ten years to go into volume production, due to the low current market demands, Mr. Li added.
