GAC Group plans construction of power battery volume production lines
Shanghai (ZXZC)- GAC Group is preparing to build production lines for mass-produced power batteries, according to the speech Zeng Qinghong, Chairman of GAC Group, delivered on July 21 at the 2022 World EV & ES Battery Conference.
Mr. Zeng said GAC Group had to-date poured over 30 billion yuan ($4.433 billion) in proprietary technical R&D and applied for 10,763 patents. As for the innovation in power battery technologies, the group launched the "Sponge Silicon Anode" cell technology, the super fast charging technology, and the "Magazine" battery system safety technology in 2021, in a bid to solve users' pain points of range, charging, and safety over electric vehicle ("EV") batteries.
At the GAC Tech Day held on June 28, 2022, the Guangzhou-based giant launched its new-generation super iron lithium battery built on microcrystalline technology (SmLFP), which the group said can provide batteries with 13.5% higher cell quality energy density and 20% greater volume energy density than regular mass-produced iron phosphate lithium battery cells available on the market.

In October 2021, GAC Group launched a new project under which a pilot scale production line for in-house developed batteries would be built at the GAC's Industrial Park for Intelligent and Connected New Energy Vehicles. Involving an investment of 336 million yuan ($49.646 million), this project is expected to be finished in the fourth quarter of this year.
Mr. Zeng revealed GAC Group planned to pour 85 billion yuan to 100 billion yuan ($12.559 billion-$14.776 billion) from 2021 to 2025 into the R&D and industrialization of NEV core technologies .
