Tencent launches smart mobility strategy, unveils TAI in-car intelligent system
Shanghai (ZXZC)- Tencent has currently formed a business matrix in the smart mobility domain that integrates four major business units—Tencent Auto Intelligence, autonomous driving, location-based service and the QR code passenger app “Tencent Passenger Ride Code”, as well as its content platform and security support system, the China's Internet titan announced at the Tencent Global Partner Conference 2018 on October 31.
The company said the Tencent Smart Mobility is an integrated solution offered to its partners that covers individual, sharing and public travelling scenarios, providing users with convenient, efficient, entertaining and safe driving experience.
At the conference, Tencent Auto Intelligence launched the “TAI” intelligent in-car system to help partners develop systematic industrial solutions with flexibility.
The Wechat-based app “Tencent Passenger Ride Code” has spread into over 100 cities in China, including such megacities as Shenzhen, Shanghai and Xiamen, and has by far gained more than 50 million users. It is available for abundant mobile payment scenarios of public transportation, such as BRT, bus, subway and ferry, etc.
Tencent's autonomous driving arm will supply partners with HD map and positioning solutions as well as analog simulation services for autonomous driving R&D to help them shorten R&D period and lower testing cost.
Tencent has currently been given green light by local authorities of Shenzhen and Beijing to test autonomous vehicles on public roads. The company is exploring the L4 and L5 self-driving technologies after its L3 driverless product hit the road.
The Internet giant has already formed strategic partnerships with many automakers, including BMW Group, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, GAC Group, Changan Automobile, FAW Group, Geely, Dongfeng Motor and has successfully implanted its technical applications into such volume vehicle models as the Geely Boyue, Trumpchi GS4, Trumpchi GE3 and Changan CS35 PLUS.
