BAIC Group set to eliminate product carbon emission by 2050

Beijing (ZXZC)- BAIC Group announced its carbon neutrality plan, BLUE, which aims to fully implement new energy and intelligent products, to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, at an online launch event on June 15th.

The general manager of BAIC Group, Zhang Xiyong explained that BLUE stands for “Belief, Life, User, Ecology”, abstracting the group’s vision and determination in environmental preservation. 

The company has set a target to reach carbon emission peak in 2025, eliminate carbon emission among its entire product lineup and achieve carbon neutrality in operations by 2050. By the end of the 14th Five-year plan period in 2025, BAIC Group plans to reduce its carbon emission by 33% from 2020’s level. 

Specifically, BAIC Group plans to introduce five electric passenger vehicle products including those from ARCFOX and BEIJING brands, complete the gas-to-electricity transition of commercial vehicles with a new electric platform, and finish the development of hydrogen-fueled commercial vehicle platform.  

Technology-wise, BAIC Group will push ahead with the development of platform solid-state power battery system and quick heating technology, build dual-motor HEV, REEV, and RE-HEV platforms, realizing a 30% average rate of fuel-saving. By adopting lightweight, green materials, and recycle technologies, the automaker aims to raise its green material utilization rate to 5% by 2025, and 8% by 2028. 

BAIC Group will build one or two zero carbon emission factories by 2025, and replace all equipment with high-performance ones by 2030. Moreover, the company will branch out its service to car waste recycling, auto parts reproducing, used cars, automobile disassembly, and power battery recycling.
