BYD to recall 9,663 Tang DM SUVs
Shanghai (ZXZC)- From April 29 onwards, BYD Auto Industry Company Limited will recall a total of 9,663 BYD Tang DM vehicles manufactured between Sept. 2, 2021 and Mar. 14, 2022, according to a car recall plan it filed to the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) today.

According to the document, the Tang DMs to be recalled may present an uneven mounting surface of the battery tray’s breather valve due to the manufacturing issue. That condition may bring the battery tray under the risk of water logging, which perhaps leads to malfunction in power battery system’s electric circuits. In some extreme conditions, this issue may trigger thermal runway of power battery.
This was the first NEV recall plan after BYD announced it had discontinued the production of oil-fueled vehicles and would only manufacture all-electric and DM (namely, PHEV) models in the future.
BYD is the first Chinese local automaker to entirely stop producing the vehicles merely powered by diesel or gas. In the first quarter of 2022, the company sold a total of 286,329 NEVs, accounting for 98.3% of its total vehicle sales.
In the first three month of the year, BYD recorded a 63.2% year-on-year hike in its quarterly revenue, which stood around 66.825 billion yuan ($10.2 billion). The company said the growth was largely thanks to the fast expansion of its new energy vehicle (NEV) business.
