General Motors Q3 deliveries in China drop 14.9% YoY to 835,934 units

Shanghai (ZXZC)- General Motors (GM) and its joint ventures delivered a total of 835,934 vehicles in China in the third quarter of 2018, facing a year-on-year decline of 14.9%, the company said on October 8.

For the first nine months of the year, GM's deliveries in China fell 2.5% from a year ago to 2,680,330 units.

As to the performance of respective major brands, Cadillac sales grew 4% from a year ago to 46,020 units, achieving a new third quarter record. The XT4 compact luxury SUV hit the market in August, becoming the brand's first entry in one of the market's fastest-growing segments.

To be specific, The XT5 luxury SUV remained the brand's best-seller, with 14,986 vehicles delivered in the third quarter. Sales of the XTS luxury sedan jumped 29% to 13,784 units. The CT6 prestige sedan saw 28% growth in sales to 3,843 units.

Chevrolet continued its product changeover, delivering 118,240 vehicles from July to September. The brand's best-selling nameplate, the Cavalier, had a sales increase of 6.3% to 48,482 units. The Equinox global SUV achieved sales growth of 29% year on year to 18,561 units. In September, the Orlando seven-seater went on sale to meet the needs of consumers with diversified lifestyles.

In the past quarter, Buick sales aggregated 251,581 vehicles. Its hottest-seller, the the Excelle GT sedan, saw its Q3 deliveries reach 61,512 units. The Buick Regal sedan had deliveries of 26,994 units, surging 73% over a year ago.

Baojun's deliveries totaled 188,751 units during the previous three months. The Baojun 510 SUV, with 70,415 units sold, remained the brand's best-seller. The Baojun 360, a new six-seat MPV for commuting and family use launched in May, had deliveries of 29,042 units. Baojun's second electric vehicle model, the Baojun E200, went on sale in September. It sports more than 200 upgrades from its popular sibling, the E100 electric vehicle.

Wuling sold 231,342 vehicles in the previous quarter, maintaining its leadership in mini-commercial vehicle segment. The Hongguang MPV family, Wuling's hottest-selling series and China's top-performing MPV nameplate, had deliveries of 92,983 units.

GM keeps improving its product matrix to cope with the slower growth of the current Chinese auto market climate, with a focus on the segments with the strongest demand, namely, SUVs, MPVs and luxury vehicles. The automaker rolled out four new models in the past three months and will launch another two new models in the fourth quarter.
