CATL, BYD get 70.06% share of China’s Q1 power battery installed capacity
Shanghai (ZXZC)- In March 2022, China's power battery outputs reached 39.2GWh, soaring 247.3% year on year, while also rising 23.3% month on month, according to the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance (CAPBIIA).
Of the power batteries produced last month, 15.6GWh and 23.6GWh were ternary-lithium batteries and lithium phosphate batteries, up 167.3% and 332.9% from the year-ago period respectively.

In the same month, China saw its power battery sales surge 175.3% year on year to 24.5GWh, which consisted of 11.1GWh ternary-lithium batteries and 13.3GWh lithium phosphate batteries.
For the first quarter of 2022, power battery outputs in China surged 206.9% year on year to 100.6GWh, while the sales volume reached 65GWh, up by 172.6%.
The CAPBIIA's data show that China's power battery installed capacity reached 21.4GWh in March 2022, soaring 138% from the year-ago period, while also leaping 56.6% over the previous month. As for the year-to-date performance, the cumulative installed capacity leapt 120.7% year on year to 51.3GWh.
Regarding March power battery installed capacity, the top 6 players were the same as that of the previous month, accounting for 88.73% of the country's total capacity. CATL still ranked highest by taking a lion's share of 50.49%. CALB ranked third by taking an 8.58% market share, while it was the runner-up in terms of March ternary-lithium battery installed capacity.
With regard to the first-quarter power battery installed capacity, the top 10 battery makers made up 94.76% of the country's total volume. Of them, CATL and BYD topped others by grabbing up to 70.06% market share in total.
