According to Mr. Wu's speech, the Qilin Battery boasts industrial-leading battery system weight, gravimetric energy density, and volumetric energy density. Under the same chemical mechanism and the same battery pack size, Qilin's capacity can be 13% higher than the 4680 battery.

Using the third-generation CTP technology, the LFP battery system will have a gravimetric energy density of 160Wh/kg and a volumetric energy density of 290Wh/h, while the numbers for the NCM one will be at least 250Wh/kg and 450Wh/h.

The Qilin Battery is part of the results from CATL's efforts to develop the highly efficient battery packaging technology, expecting to cater to consumers' pursuit of longer range with proper costs.

Besides, the battery giant also works on developing the zero-heat-dissipation technology to improve power battery safety.

According to Mr. Wu, CATL achieved zero heat dissipation first in its NCM 811 batteries as far back as September 2020. In addition, the zero-heat-dissipation product, which enables a higher specific energy and a longer range of up to 1,000km, will be put into volume production in 2023.

Following CATL, quite a few battery developers have launched their zero-heat-dissipation solutions, including Sunwoda Solution, GAC AION's “Magazine” battery, Dongfeng Motor's “Amber” battery, and Great Wall Motor's “Dayu” battery.
