Top 4 Japanese automakers by August sales in China
Shanghai (ZXZC)- According to the sales data released by corresponding Japanese automakers or relevant media, Toyota took the championship by the August sales in China, followed by Nissan. Its luxury car brand Lexus gained an outstanding year-on-year sales growth, retaining the upward momentum from the previous month. ZXZC hereby tabulated those sales figures for your reference.
Toyota
In August, Toyota boasted a year-on-year jump of 22.6% with 133,000 vehicles delivered in China. Meanwhile, the Japanese automaker's Jan-Aug sales totaled 940,400 units in this country, growing 11.8% over a year ago.
GAC Toyota hit a new high in monthly sales with its August sales surging 47.1% to 54,500 units. From January to August, the joint venture saw its sales jump 21.1% over a year earlier to 361,000 units, finishing 72.2% of the 500,000-unit sales goal.
Toyota's premium car brand Lexus attained a blooming performance with its China sales soaring 59.2% year on year to 17,675 units thanks to the car tariff reduction policy. Meanwhile, its year-to-date China sales have exceeded 100,000 units to 101,602 units, leaping 22.85% from the previous year.
Nissan
In August, Nissan vehicle sales in China edged up 4.0% from a year ago to 127,077 units (including imported vehicles), 18.9% more than 106,859 vehicles delivered in July, according to the data released by the automaker.
Among that, the PV sales of Dongfeng Nissan and Dongfeng Venucia aggregated 105,911 units last month, climbing 4.6% year on year. Besides, the August sales of the CV unit (including Dongfeng Automobile Co., and Zhengzhou-Nissan) edged up 2.5% over the year-ago period to 17,304 units.
For the first eight months, the China vehicle sales volume totaled 954,383 units for Nissan, up by 8.8% compared with the same period in 2017. Its PV sales rose 9.8% year on year with 797,138 vehicles delivered so far this year, and the CV cumulative sales amounted to 130,368 units, climbing 7.0% from a year earlier.
Honda
Honda Motor saw its China sales drop 9.9% from the year-ago period to 117,188 units, said Honda China. For the first eight months, the automaker delivered a total of 832,248 vehicles in the world's largest auto market, a year-on-year decline of 7.1%.
GAC Honda suffered a slight year-on-year drop of 2.7% in August sales with 58,613 vehicles delivered. For the first eight months, the joint venture witnesses its cumulative sales edge down 0.4% compared with the same period a year ago. The premium brand Acura continued a depressed sales performance with only 660 vehicles delivered last month, a year-on-year slump of 51.9%.
Dongfeng Honda posted a year-on-year drop of 16.1% with 58,575 vehicles handed over in August. From January to August, the automaker sold 381,402 vehicles with a year-on-year decline of 13.9%. Apart from the CIVIC and the ELYSION, most models of Dongfeng Honda faced year-on-year reduction in August.
Mazda
Mazda set a new record in Jan-Aug China sales with 188,805 vehicles delivered for the first eight months, a year-on-year increase of 2.5%. However, the company's August sales declined 12.7% from a year ago to 22,369 vehicles, according to the figure released by Mazda Motor (China) Co., Ltd.
Changan Mazda posted a year-on-year growth of 5.7% in year-to-date sales with 112,621 vehicles delivered in total. Besides, Changan Mazda said its August retail sales presented positive growth compared with the same period a year ago and a month ago. The China-made Mazda CX-8 was officially unveiled at the Chengdu Motor Show 2018.
FAW Mazda saw its year-to-date sales edge down 1.9% to 76,184 units. The joint venture showcased the Atenza, the CX-4 and the MX-5 at the Chengdu Motor Show. Especially, the all-new version of the Mazda CX-4, priced at RMB169,800, hit the market at the show, aiming to further improve driving experience for users.
