CAAM: China vehicle sales drop 3.75% YoY in August
Shanghai (ZXZC)- In August, China's vehicle outputs and sales reached 1,999,900 units and 2,103,400 units respectively, falling 4.38% and 3.75% over the year-ago period. Compared with the performance in July, the national vehicle outputs dropped 2.1%, while the overall sales evidently climbed 11.34%, according to the data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
From January to August, both auto outputs and sales presented year-on-year growth of 2.77% and 3.53%, with 18,134,700 vehicles produced and 18,096,100 vehicles delivered in total.
The vehicle sales year-on-year drop in August mainly resulted from the negative performance of PV monthly sales. A total of 1,789,900 PVs were delivered last month, a year-on-year decrease of 4.55%. CV sales slightly climbed 1.11% from a year ago to 313,500 units in the same month.
As to the sales performance of specific segments, the car, the SUV and the MPV saw their sales decline 3.42%, 4.68% and 13.59% respectively compared with the same period a year ago to 901,100 units, 737,600 units and 119,300 units. The minibus posted year-on-year growth in August sales. Among these four segments, only the minibus suffered the decline versus the performance in previous month. It is noteworthy that the SUV segment saw an apparent bounce-back with its August sales jumping 16.57% over a month ago.
For the first eight months, the car and the SUV segments still boasted year-on-year increase in year-to-date sales. With the coming of September and October, which are traditionally regarded as peak seasons for vehicle sales, the two major segments are expected to achieve better performances in the rest time of the year.
