BMW Group, Tencent ally on smart mobility domain in China
Shanghai (ZXZC)- BMW Group and Tencent inked a strategic MoU (memorandum of understanding) on September 5 to develop cooperation in smart mobility industry.
According to the MoU, the Chinese Internet giant and German automaker will join force to evaluate the integration of Tencent's digital products and services and BMW Group's digital platform of car terminal and mobile terminal. Besides, both parties intend to explore the potential collaboration in such areas as the infotainment system and service, the underlying infrastructure as well as cybersecurity, etc.
Pony Ma, chairman and CEO of Tencent, said the company will provide BMW Group with the most effective digital interface and plentiful digital toolboxes with the goal of building a cooperative digital ecosystem and boosting the innovation and development for the intelligent industry.
Jochen Goller, President and CEO of BMW Group Region China, said at the MoU signing ceremony that BMW Group aims to speed up the development of a seamless digital ecosystem for Chinese consumers through the cooperation with Tencent.
"Tencent regards BMW Group as an important international partner. Both parties have already had cooperation in several fields, such as cybersecurity, music and positioning service and will deepen such partnership onward to jointly create a digital experience integrated of in-car facilities and the environment outside the car," said Zhong Xiangping, vice president of Tencent.
