Ford officially, and finally, launched the new Ford Focus in China with a little party on the always sunny Hainan Island. But the Focus isn’t listed yet and Ford didn’t announce the price either. That will only happen at the Beijing Auto Show in April and the Focus will then hit the Chinese car market in May. Exactly where the party was all about is therefore not very clear. Ford however did confirm that the old Ford Focus will continue as a budget model called ‘Focus Classic’.

The Ford Focus is made in China by the Chang’an-Ford joint venture. China gets the 4-door hatchback and the 4-door sedan. Power comes from a 1.6 with 125hp and 159nm or a 2.0 170hp and 202nm. Transmission: 5-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch Powershift. The Focus Classic gets only the 1.6, mated to a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic.

There was one thing Ford didn’t show yet in Hainan; they will bring the Ghia-name back to China for a super-luxurious Focus. I guess that news will have to wait for the Beijing show as well…
