Shanghai (ZXZC)- NIO saw its monthly registrations hit a new high of 10,482 units in Dec. 2021, achieving a year-on-year surge of 51.1% and a month-on-month growth of 0.7%, according to the data compiled by ZXZC Auto Research Institute.

Nevertheless, the company failed to maintain the championship among Chinese NEV startups in terms of year-to-date performance, only ranking third with 90,866 vehicles registered through 2021.

By Dec. registrations of China-made new energy passenger vehicles (NEPVs), NIO ranked 13th among all auto brands, while dropped to the 4th place among Chinese NEV startups.

The ES6 still served as NIO's hottest-selling model in Dec. with 4,912 vehicles registered. It recorded 95.2% and 5.5% growth compared to the year-ago and month-ago periods respectively. Among homemade NEPV models in China, the ES6 only ranked 27th by Dec. registrations.

Regarding the Dec. registrations of the ES6, Shanghai also outperformed other cities on the Chinese mainland. The other three first-tier cities, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou, were all on the top 10 cities list, but none of them entered the top 5 rankings.

The Dec. registrations of the EC6 fell 17.5% from the previous year. By the end of Dec. 2021, the NIO's third production model had recorded 34,696 units in cumulative registrations, 29,954 units of which were registered last year.

Among the top 10 cities by Dec. EC6 registrations, four were from Zhejiang province, namely, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, and Jinhua. Beijing didn't appear on the top 10 cities list.

The monthly registrations of the ES8 stood at 2,772 units in Dec. 2021, reaching another record high level. Compared to Nov., the ES8 was the fast-growing one among NIO's three production models for scale delivery.

Four first-tier cities in China were all listed in the rankings of the top 10 cities by Dec. ES8 registrations. Notably, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Beijing were all on the top 5 list.
