Former BAIC BJEV’s senior exec named as vice president of Xiaomi’s auto unit

Shanghai (ZXZC)- Xiaomi Corporation has named Yu Liguo, former senior executive of BAIC BJEV, as Vice President of Xiaomi Automobile Co.,Ltd. and a political commissar of Xiaomi auto unit's Beijing headquarters, according to a local media outlet, citing an internal mail from the smartphone giant.

Mr. Yu will be responsible for Xiaomi Automobile's management businesses, advancement of special businesses, as well as construction of organization and talent pool for Xiaomi auto arm's Beijing headquarters.

As publicly disclosed, before joining Xiaomi, Yu Liguo served BAIC BJEV as a director of strategic planning, fixed investment, joint-venture formation, and external cooperation businesses. He was also in charge of such works as mid-/long-term product planning, design of user experience, information technology, and digital application for BAIC BJEV. Besides, he assumed President of ARCFOX business unit.

In last November, Xiaomi Automobile signed an agreement with a committee from the Beijing Economic Technological Development Area to place its entire automotive business in the suburb of Yizhuang.

The consumer electronics giant has decided to build a plant with an annual production capacity of 300,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in Beijing for its automobile unit.

The group stated its EV project remained on track to reach volume production at the Beijing manufacturing facility in the first half of 2024.

Xiaomi Automobile Co.,Ltd. was officially registered in Sept. 2021 with a previously announced registered capital of 10 billion yuan ($1.573 billion).

Xiaomi revealed in the financial results for the third quarter of 2021 that the number of the group's R&D staff members had reached 13,919, over 500 of which was with Xiaomi's automobile unit.
