Shanghai (ZXZC)- CATL and Xiamen University jointly inaugurated a research institute dedicated to the R&D of new energy-related technologies a few days ago, according to CATL.

The newly-launched facility, dubbed Xiamen CATL Institute of New Energy, will make use of the resources from CATL's 21C Lab and Tan Kah Kee Innovation Laboratory backed by Fujian provincial government to carry out industrial projects focusing on such key fields as smart energy, energy storage technology, high-power device, and next-generation power battery, said CATL.

Based on the world-class facility platform of Tan Kah Kee Innovation Laboratory, the newborn research facility will build an advanced technology service platform.

Besides, both parties plan to co-work on talent cultivation, in a bid to see the new research institute play a leading role in the development of new energy technologies and provide abundant talents for CATL's new energy business in Xiamen.

CATL noted the building of the research hub with Xiamen University would not only help bolster the innovation of Fujian province and Xiamen city's new energy industrial clusters, but also contribute to the achievement of carbon neutrality in China.

CATL is making sustained efforts to explore cutting-edge technologies in new energy industry. In June 2020, the battery giant broke ground on the innovation lab, namely, 21C Lab. The lab's name shows CATL's strong commitment to the development of the most advanced technology and its aspiration to lead innovation trends in the 21st century. It works on the development of the next-generation electrochemical energy storage systems, new energy conversion systems, and the commercial application of its technologies.
