Shanghai (ZXZC)- On July 25, China's O2O (online to offline) giant Meituan Dianping, unveiled its self-developed unmanned delivery vehicle for the first time in Beijing. The unmanned vehicle can convey meals from restaurants to consumers and is able to take elevators by itself.

Compared with delivery vehicles for e-commerce, food delivery vehicles have stricter requirements on the punctuality of delivery, so a more sensitive algorithm is much needed, field staff told local media. They also revealed that Meituan Dianping plans to operate unmanned delivery vehicles at some enclosed parks in the Xiongan New Area, while the specific number of the vehicles has not been decided yet.

In addition, the field staff disclosed that the developer caps the speed of unmanned vehicles at 15km per hour to ensure the safety.

Reportedly, the newly-unveiled unmanned delivery vehicle will be put into trial operation within this year and the large-scale operation in certain areas will be conducted in 2019.

According to Meituan Dianping, the company is engaging in drafting a regulation on behalf of firms about low-speed electric vehicles and logistics automaton running on roads to provide suggestions for regulators.
