Suning, BAIC Group talk on possible EV, mobility cooperation
Shanghai (ZXZC)- On June 17, Zhang Jindong, Suning Holdings Group's chairman, and BAIC Group's chairman Xu Heyi discussed about the development landscape of EV industry in China during Xu's visit to Nanjing. Besides, both parties exchanged views on respective development strategies and needs to seek a potential cooperation.
Zhang Jindong said that Suning and BAIC Group could extend in-depth cooperation in various areas to promote deep integration of consumption and travelling experience. In addition, both companies should follow the trend of the public's life quality and conduct investment in terms of new business modes and new products for forward-looking cooperation in the long run.
Xu Heyi stated that Suning is one of the most successful and innovative companies in cross-border integration between traditional and Internet retail areas. Both parties can join forces to make EV (electric vehicles) penetrate into people's daily life,
As a trailblazer in China's smart retail industry, the e-commerce company has extended its businesses into automobile industry in recent years. In July, 2017, Suning opened its first automotive supermarket in Nanjing and said it would increase the number to over 100 nationwide in the future. In August 2017, the company invested in the Chinese EV startup BYTON and then announced the establishment of Suning.com Automotive Company in November last year. In March, 2018, Suning.com partnered with China Unicom to jointly explore 5G technology's application in smart home and IoV (Internet of Vehicles).
BAIC Group is the earliest Chinese automaker that is devoted to developing, manufacturing and promoting EVs. BAIC BJEV, the group's EV subsidiary, has taken China's BEV sales championship for 5 consecutive years and is expected to be listed on stock market this year.
