Lynk & Co to roll out larger-sized SUV model, shares platform with new Volvo XC60

Shanghai (ZXZC)- Geely Auto's car brand Lynk & Co will develop new models based on the SPA platform (scalable product architecture), a global full-size unibody automobile platform developed and manufactured by Volvo Cars, to cover D-class and E-class segments, according to An Conghui, president and CEO of Geely Auto. Reportedly, Lynk & Co plans to roll out larger-sized SUV models in the future.

The SPA platform boasts highly design flexibility, similar to Volkswagen's MQB platform. Apart from the areas from the front axle to the instrumental panel with measurement restriction, the design of vehicle length, height and wheelbase are not limited to certain standards. Besides, the platform uses high-tensile boron steel for vehicle manufacturing, which can not only improve the car rigidity, but also reduce the vehicle's weight.

Volvo Cars has already developed many models based on the SPA platform, including the S90, XC90, XC60 as well as the all-new S60, who just made its world debut on June 20. All these models are priced at over RMB 300,000. Reportedly, Lynk & Co's SPA-based new model will go on sale as soon as 2020, sitting in a price range of over RMB 200,000.

Since Lynk & Co 01 went on sale in November last year, the automaker's second production vehicle model, the Lynk & Co 02 is confirmed to hit the market in June 28. In addition, the A-class sedan model Lynk & Co 03 is planned to go on sale in the fourth quarter of this year. These three models are all developed on the CMA platform (compact modular architecture), which is jointly built by Volvo Cars and Geely Auto.
