China vehicle sales edged down 1.37% year on year in May, CAAM

Shanghai (ZXZC)- In May, the total vehicle outputs and sales in China reached 2.3444 million units and 2.2877 million units, rising 12.84% and 9.61% year on year, while edging down 2.26% and 1.37% versus the performances in April, according to the data released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

China's total passenger vehicle (PV) outputs in May were 1.9542 million units, increasing 11.82% from a year earlier, while falling 2.28% month on month. Meanwhile, a total of 1.8894 million PVs were delivered in this country last month, an increase of 7.89% over the previous year.

The top 10 Chinese automakers by May sales were SAIC Motor, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, FAW Group, BAIC Group, Changan Auto, GAC Group, Geely Auto, Great Wall Motor, Brilliance Auto and Chery Auto. They delivered 2.0265 million vehicles in total last month, which accounted for 88.58% of total China's sales.

For the first five months, the aggregate vehicle outputs and sales in China showed year-on-year growth of 3.84% and 5.71% respectively to 11.768 million units and 11.7924 million units. Among that, the PV year-to-date outputs and sales reached 9.9229 million units and 9.9008 million units, up by 2.96% and 5.09% respectively.

Apart from car and minibus segments, the outputs of the SUV and the MPV showed month-on-month decline in May. Besides, the MPV monthly outputs slumped 18.86% from a year ago to 132,100 units.

As to the sales, the cumulative sales of MPV and minibus segments decreased by 11.12% and 30.11% over the year-ago period to 752,700 units and 190,800 units respectively.
