The Dolphin will come with four variants in the future and will be sold via BYD's e network.

The new hatchback is designed by BYD's Global Design Director Wolfgang Egger, and is the first model to adopt marine design concepts and a new logo, aiming to create a free, unique, and joyful way of travel for young urbanites, said BYD.

Adopting the all-new design philosophy of “ocean aesthetics”, the Dolphin features a pretty sleek car body. The front carries a U-shaped chrome-plated trim surrounding a black panel with BYD's logo at the center, while also connecting the headlights on both sides. At the rear, the taillight cluster runs across the tailgate where the emblem of a silvery dolphin is located at the lower right corner. The large-sized rear spoiler adds more sports essence to the vehicle.

According to the declaration information released by China's MIIT, the Dolphin is positioned as a compact pure electric car with a length, width and height of 4,070 (4,125)/1,770/1,570mm, and a wheelbase of 2,700mm.

The MIIT's data show that the Dolphin will get power from a lithium iron phosphate battery pack. Driven the vehicle will be a permanent magnet synchronous motor that churns out up to 70kW. In addition, the car can run at a top speed of 150km/h.
