Tesla exports 33,315 China-made vehicles in February
Beijing (ZXZC)- Tesla sold 56,515 China-made new vehicles in February, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). The results included 33,315 vehicles exported from its Shanghai plant.
According to the data from the association, the wholesale volume of China-made Tesla vehicles in the first two months of this year totaled 116,260 vehicles, including 73,814 exported to other countries.
In February this year, there were only 28 days and the Chinese New Year Holiday came at the beginning of the month, which had an obvious effect on vehicle sales. Besides, the American company usually exports more Shanghai-made vehicles early in a quarter and delivers more in the local market at the end of a quarter. So Tesla’s local sales are expected to see great month-over-month growth in this month.
China’s overall wholesale volume of new energy passenger vehicles totaled 317,000 in February, surging 189.1% year over year but falling 24.1% month over month. The decrease from a month earlier was much narrower than that of the same month over the past years.
Two more automakers had a wholesale volume of over 10,000 when compared with the same span of last year. Apart from Tesla, BYD (87,473 vehicles), SAIC GM Wuling (26,046 vehicles), Geely Auto (14,285 vehicles), and Chery Auto (10,271 vehicles) all sold over 10,000 new energy passenger vehicles last month. What’s more, the growth rate of BYD, Chery, Geely and SAIC Volkswagen surpassed 500%.
In terms of export, the whole market exported 45,300 new energy passenger vehicles in the month, 73.5% of which were contributed by Tesla. SAIC Motor PV unit exported 4,325 units while the volume of eGT New Energy Automotive Co., Ltd. (eGT), the electric vehicle joint venture between the Renault-Nissan Alliance and Dongfeng Motor Group, amounted to 4,536 units. The respective export volume of Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroën, BYD, Geely, SAIC Maxus stood at 1,145 units, 804 units, 588 units and 240 units.
