Following its presence in Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Singapore, GAC AION has now expanded its international footprint to Malaysia.
The Malaysian electric vehicle market is currently experiencing positive growth. The Malaysian government is actively supporting the development of the electric vehicle sector through the National Green Technology Policy and the Genentech Malaysia program. China, home to the world's largest electric vehicle market and leading new energy vehicle technologies, brings a fresh appeal to Malaysia’s emerging high-end pure electric SUV market with the introduction of the hotter-selling AION Y Plus model.
Ma Haiyang, General Manager of GAC AION's Southeast Asia Center, stated that AION will collaborate with local distributor Tan Chong International to rapidly expand local distribution channels, aiming to establish over 25 dealerships by the end of the year. They also plan to introduce three flagship models gradually. Furthermore, AION will set up a permanent professional team in Malaysia, using the Southeast Asia headquarters as a regional hub. This team will focus on sales, branding, after-sales service, and energy replenishment, ensuring swift response and support for local demands, while coordinating with the Guangzhou headquarters to enhance operational efficiency across three locations.

As GAC AION accelerates its global strategy implementation, its models are now available in multiple countries and regions worldwide. In early April, the carmaker signed an agreement with INDOMOBIL, officially entering the Indonesian market. Construction of GAC AION's manufacturing bases in Thailand and Indonesia is underway, supporting the dual-factory strategy to extend its reach across Southeast Asia and even the global automotive market.
Over the next 1-2 years, AION plans to establish seven major production and sales bases in Europe, South America, Africa, the Middle East, and East Asia, achieving a globally integrated system for R&D, production, and sales.
